I think part of what was problematic with Thor was that Kenneth Branaugh, while a director whose work I DO enjoy when its what he does best (Shakespeare), was not the best choice for a comic hero movie. I mean realistically he didn't write the script so there was some of that. I felt like Thor's friends were great characters who we only scratched the surface of. I mean FFS one was played by Tadanobu Asano!! He's a great actor! I think the issue might have been too many characters, not enough time.
I think what Branaugh did well was the look of the film (it was a good looking film), but there was something lacking in the script and that's not entirely his fault.
Whoever wrote Captain America did a better job and the characters were more fleshed out. It was just a better story.
