Draco didn't hold a long standing crush. I have no idea what you're talking about.

Also- PEOPLE ENDING UP WITH SCHOOLMATES IN THIS UNIVERSE IS JUST LOGIC. Almost EVERY witch or wizard in the UK goes to Hogwarts. It's not like you and all your friends ending up with someone at their highschool. In a universe this 'small' there's a darn good chance you're going to meet the person you will eventually marry at Hogwarts.

Snape's obsession with Lily was creepy though, and honestly... I think it was supposed to be?

To be fair, I think more of the objection isn't so much with how they all knew each other at Hogwarts, but how they were each other's ~first loves~ that actually worked out relatively well, you know? Very few of them actually had previous relationships that were any good at all before ending. Lavender was really immature and awkward and her relationship with Ron was pretty messed up. Harry liked Cho but never successfully got with her, and she was the only other girl we saw him develop interest in. Ginny has that whole thing with partially dating around so Harry would ~see her as a woman~ or what have you. Hermione and Viktor Krum's mutual attraction was probably the closest thing to a previous decent relationship that ultimately just didn't work out, but they never actually got together.

I agree that it's unreasonable to expect them to find people that they didn't know at Hogwarts at all; like you said, pretty much every witch or wizard in the UK goes to Hogwarts, so they'd only really have the opportunity by either leaving the UK or getting with someone who moved to the UK after their schooling years, like with Bill and Fleur. Or of course by dating a muggle, but that seldom goes well.

Personally, I only really take issue with how Harry/Ginny was handled re; the kids' relationships. I don't think it was impossible to work out well, but I feel like a major portion of development that should've happened, both with the relationship and with Ginny's character, just never happened.

Re; Draco, I think people are assuming he knew Astoria Greengrass and fell for her at Hogwarts? Which doesn't make sense to me, since I'd think she'd have been mentioned if that had happened.

Dating around? Seriously? Being with two separate guys for entire months on end is dating around and what have you? You lost me right there.

...Yeah, it is? She was dating people, exploring her options, what have you. That's "dating around", it's not necessarily a super negative term or whatever. The problem is that it was at least in part so Harry would notice her. That doesn't mean it was her only reason, but it was still a reason.

Also I'm not buying the argument that her staying with these guys for months means she was serious about them. I was with a girl for 4 months that I later found out had no real desire to be with me, and was "settling" for me because she thought the girl that she really wanted to be with was straight. Her dating these guys for months proves nothing.
