Firstly: why all the hate for Carrot up ins? I love the guy. He's a great foil to ridiculous characters like Ventinari and Rincewind, and he's damn loveable.

Secondly: ...Who the hell ships Discworld? Some series I can see it for, but Pratchett almost always writes in a fairly omniscient style save where certain antagonists are concerned. Nothing in those books is ambiguous enough to ship.

I was a little unhappy when it said Maladict was a girl, because it seemed that Polly didn't "get" lesbians, but then, maybe that's why she wasn't out before...

I sort of thought that Mal waited to say she's a girl because she wanted it to be a big deal, and waited so long that she was ultimately undone in the cool department. The hipster: undone! But still sexy, because yeah. Maladicta is sexy.

IDK, Polly seemed to get the idea about lesbians once it was laid out in front of her. She kinda rolled with it, whatever it was as long as it didn't hurt anyone.

IDK why, but most Discworld shipping feels to me like I'm messing with my childhood (yep, my grandmother gave me Discworld books at age eight xD). They're just so perfect all ready ... I don't know, but for some reason, I have a /giant mental block/ on all Discworld shipping.
There are a few things that I think "oh, that's nice" about - Vimes and his wife, for instance - but it's just sort of incidental.
That said, I have no problems with other people shipping away. ;D YKINMK, that's all. xD

(Ironically, after reading the thread, I've realized that I do make an exception for Maladicta/Polly. I've never/will never read or search for fic, but I thought that it was canon when I read it, so yeah. xD)

I think Monstrous Regiment allows for shipping more than other Discworld books, it has that open endedness and we don't really see anyone's private world besides Polly's.

And yeah, Maladicta/Polly is extremely canon compliant and it's very easy to read Mal as having a crush on Polly throughout the book, while Polly simply has more important things to focus on until they meet again (sorry for the tl;dr, they're my favorite ship :D)
