He pulled a sword on her right after they'd just had sex for the first time, without even thinking about it, just because she was a werewolf.

He's also done a few other shitty manipulative things to her, without letting her say what she'd like to.

I'm both a het fan and a slasher, and I make it a point to never bash the canon girlfriend. Please don't assume.

To be fair, werewolves are pretty screamingly dangerous and in some traditions mindlessly violent in their wolf forms. In addition, Discworld werewolves are Uberwald creatures, and all the groups from there started out as gothic horror archetypes at some point in the past, which are meant to be frightening. All of which is to say, he had perfectly legitimate reasons to be frightened and when he's frightened he reacts by finding a weapon because he's a policeman. It was an emotional reaction, not a statement of reasoned intent, and if you want to start hating people for their reflexive emotional reactions you aren't going to be able to like anybody.

It's not where I started hating him. I didn't care for him much before he met Angua, and his actions before he knew Angua was a werewolf always set my teeth on edge. After he found out- well, it doesn't excuse his later dickery with her.

policemen don't automatically reach for weapons! They keep calm, assess the situation to see if they need to intervene, and then reach for a weapon only if they are actively being threatened. Vimes is somewhat clear on the need for drawing weapons in Nightwatch.

Carrot reacted like an aristocrat and soldier, not a copper. If that had happened in a later book Vimes would not have been amused. I let Pratchett off because it was only his second time with those groups and their philosophy. And because of History Monks...somehow.

This is a very good point! It always bothered me that he drew his sword (even from the perspective of Carrot), but I was never able to put into words exactly why.
