Um, I don't date short guys because I'm not usually attracted to them. I'm 5'11 and I mostly fancy really tall guys (like, really tall, about 6'8 at least).

Not wanting to date people you're not attracted to != being an asshole. Unless you're being an asshole about this thing, then well, you are an asshole, but not for just not having a thing for short guys.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
This! I am a relatively tall girl, and when I do like guys (only about 25~% of my sexuality leans towards guys) they are always shorter.

Then again, I've met people who wouldn't date shorter/taller ON PRINCIPLE and it didn't seem to have anything to do with attraction -- that's a bit of an asshole thing to do.

+1

Really tired of people telling me there's something wrong with me or that I'm being at tool or 'missing out' because I don't like to date short dudes. ...no, no I'm not missing out. I don't like what I don't like, no amount of awesome is going to make up for the fact that I have a complex about my height and don't feel comfortable dating shorter dudes.

I still think he's ugly. *shrug*

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think what you mean to say is that size doesn't matter if you're a hot celebrity.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Except James McAvoy is not short--he's 5'7". He's average or close to average in pretty much every country.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-23 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
This. In my country his height is the average.

Just off the top of my head, in the UK, America, and Sweden the average man is like 5'10".

And if you go my the young generation (sub 25) that reaches six foot.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
DA. This is true, but I don't think being 3 inches shorter than a national average makes someone "short." Average heights take huge extremes into account, and I don't think I even know anyone who's 5'10" (I'm in swing dancing, where height is kind of a big deal.) I know a lot more people who are 6'4" or 5'4", you know? This is one of those things where the mode is probably more meaningful than the mean.

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, human heights are pretty much bell curves - for each gender, the mode is the mean (and the median).

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
As of 2000, the average adult male in the US was 5' 10" and the standard deviation was 2.5" (for adult women the mean was 5'4.5" with the same standard deviation) (Source: every statistics textbook published in the Oughts in the US). An adult male standing 5'7" would be more than a full standard deviation below the mean, which means it would be one of the things someone trying to describe him would mention - "Well, he had dark hair, he was pale, and he was kind of short." But he's not two SD shorter than average, so it probably wouldn't be the first thing they'd mention.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
This IS short. I've heard he is EVEN shorter.

(Anonymous) 2011-10-24 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Jesus, I HATE when it is not the metric system. James is around 1.65 and this is short. The same size of Dustin Hoffman. He sees himself as short (he said in an interview he is short). There is nothing wrong in being one.

[identity profile] damnated.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
165cm is actually around 5'4, not 5'7? (I am a female, around 162cm and always thought I was short).

[identity profile] june-miller.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. It is around 5.5 or 5.6. When it comes to the height of an actor, there are generally lies involved. Others short ones are Michael J. Fox (1.64, 1.65)and Tom Cruise. And you're not short, you're average.

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm only 5'4", and at least where I live most guys shorter than I am tend to still be in middle school -.- I'm not too fussy about height on guys, I like them medium tall (if they're too much taller than me I feel shrimpy and I don't like that lol) but i will admit I want them at least 2" taller than me. Weirdly I do like girls who are smaller than me as much as ones who are taller, though. Idk.

[identity profile] prettyshiny.livejournal.com 2011-10-23 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
James is awesome. He's brilliantly talented, funny, and gorgeous in a way that's very different from your typical Hollywood stud.

Also, his MacBeth? A revelation. If you haven't seen it, I heartily recommend it.

Excellent choice in celeb crushes, anon!

I'm a woman near 6', myself. When I was in high school and they made us learn dancing in phys ed, I got paired with someone who must have been half a foot shorter than me. I don't mind an inch or two, but I just feel awkward as hell with SHORT guys. I mean, I feel awkward and lanky enough just by myself. :/

[identity profile] kryptoncat.livejournal.com 2011-10-24 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm about 5'6" and would love to date a guy shorter than me. But I wouldn't refuse a taller guy, just so you know.
