Alright, before my rant, I should probably clarify that when I refer to shipping, I mean romance, not just porn.

I don't like the prominance of m/m because it feels like female sexuality is being ignored. Or female CHARACTERS being ignored. There seems to be so much attention given to men everywhere: in movies, ads, any fiction in general. Females are generally shut aside as shallow characters used to fill the requisite "minority" in shows, unless that show is specifically about dating or shopping. There are exceptions to this, and I give kudos to those writers who make female characters feel like "people" rather than "women".

But for some reason, in fanfiction, even when there is just as many or more good female characters than males, who gets all the attention? Men. As usual. It's just a little insulting that the media seems to cater to straight men, and when women have a chance to write stories about women in fanfiction, they write about men anyway.

Just my opinion. I don't mean to be rude or anything, I just wanted to get it off my chest.

1) m/m isn't that prominent. It's actually rare to find that a fandom is more slash-oriented than het-oriented. LJ is one of the few slash-oriented places on the net. Once you leave here, you will often find it a different story.

2) I disagree the male get more attention if there is consistent female presence. Those fandom tend to be more het or split overall. Most slash-dominant fandom are usually series with not a very strong female presence in the first place. But

3) You don't have the right to shame anyone for their shipping habits or kinks. They may not get their sexual pleasure or exploration from fandom but somewhere else.

1) I have trouble believing that.
2) We can just agree to disagree on this.
3) That's true, I didn't mean to shame. I was just caught up in the heat of the argument. Sorry!
