OMG, you stole almost my exact words right out of my mouth. :)

OP, I was going to say that I am and also know plenty of well-adjusted geeks with social skills -- you just have to find them. Or maybe befriend a couple of the non-adjusted ones and lead by example. Good luck.

This. A lot of geeks, coming into college, are social misfits because at their previous school, they were never given a chance to be anything but "the geek". (Or "the gay kid". Or "the math whiz". Etc). Usually they start off irritating as freshmen, but over time they start to chill the fuck out -- once you start to realize that college is a bigger place and you aren't stuck with the same classmates, social structure, etc, forever, some people grow beyond their initial weirdness. I think it's important to ask yourself the question "am I completely annoyed by this person and hate their company" or "am I just embarrassed to be seen with them around my other pals"? If it's the latter, you might consider spending time with them in a low key environment, one on one, and see if you can find a geeky relationship that works for you (D&D night, nerd movie Sunday, etc).
