The problem with this is that things which are commonly known as sex toys have never been able to consent. It's not a change of state, not a question of morals, not a matter of legality. A dead body, on the other hand, used to be able to consent but no longer can, and depending on how you're defining "dead," that's a very slippery slope.

There are only so many ways in which you can define dead. The only "grey are" I can think of is braindead - which is indeed a very touchy subject that a lot of people have deep feelings about, much like abortion. But let's be honest, that's not what's being talked about in this secret.

I'm not saying shagging corpses is "good", or moral, or shouldn't be a crime.

I'm saying it's not the same crime a raping a living person. As I said above: you cannot hurt a corpse. You cannot psychologically traumatize it for life. You cannot make it pregnant. It's just...not the same at all.

Technically, since matter can neither be created nor destroyed the atoms that make up a sex toy could have been part of something able to consent at some time. Just sayin'

But there is a gigantic difference between a living person and a dead body. The respect we give dead bodies generally has to do with respect for the people they used to be, their memory. And we respect the emotional attachment their family and friends might still have to the corpse, so soon after dead.

But in itself, a dead body is just dead meat. Even if you believe in an afterlife, then the soul is gone, and all that is left is the shell.

and sex toys are obviously exactly the same as a human body! including once having a family, friends, interests, emotions, and the possibility of having an everlasting soul depending on the personal beliefs of the person who used to inhabit it

I agree it's incredibly disrespectful to both who the person used to be, and to his/her family friends. I agree that it should be a crime.

It's just not at all the same crime as rape.

I realize that is your opinion, but I can't agree. To me that would be rape because they both cannot give consent. And I think the difference between us is the way we view a dead body. To you it is nothing more than rotting meat, but to me it is still considered a sacred vessel which is to be respected.

Different culture/spiritual views for different folks.

The difference is that you can rape an animal (and indeed, this is one of the major objections to bestiality), but you cannot rape meat. If someone fucks a steak, they're just masturbating in a disturbing way.

No one is arguing that the desecration of corpses is a good or even neutral act, or should be permissible. They're just trying to explain that consent is a non-issue from the perspective of the corpse itself, because it is an inanimate object. There are other reasons to object to necrophilia that do not involve considering the act to be rape. An inanimate object cannot be raped, and however important or "sacred" a person's corpse is, it's still an inanimate object, because if it weren't, it would be alive.

I know what they are explaining but that doesn't mean that I agree with it because to me a corpse cannot give consent because it can't. Therefore, that lays in the area of rape.

It can't be rape because a dead body is a thing and you can't rape things. Corpses have to be respected but you can't apply to them the same rules that you apply to living beings.
