Yeah, but villains can act like thugs and talk shit without having to imply or even explicitly state that they want to rape a woman. They can talk about how they're going to hurt the person they're fighting without adding in the sexual element. It's not "gosh darn it to heck" or "rape time" - there's middle ground there, a whole spectrum of smack talk that would stay in character.

Also, how many of us actually spend time with the sort of thug character these games are trying to portray? I'd wager not many, so that 'typical' behaviour and language you mention is usually what we've become used to from television and movies, rather than us actually hanging out with violent criminals. So it's all scripted - somebody sat down and wrote it. I'm not saying that criminals don't talk like that. I am saying the average lawful person is getting their idea of how those people talk from scripts, and if those scripts didn't have that rape/sexual assault element written in then our idea of 'typical' thuggish language would no longer include it. And what's to say the next generation of criminals aren't hearing these scripts and then emulating that language, so it becomes art-to-real-life?

I don't know, I'm just saying that dismissing something that's uncomfortable and gross because it's 'typical' doesn't mean writing like that should get a free pass.

That's pretty much how it is in the game though. Only a few thugs (out of the hundreds of thugs in the game) discuss wanting Harley or Catwoman. The rest just want them dead. Most of the conversations you hear discuss things from thugs discuss murder, torture, and hit-jobs to the weather, hamburgers and how much they want to escape the city.

Perhaps I should have said stereotypical rather than using obviously easy-to-misinterpret quotes. Sorry, I thought the use of them was pretty straightforward.

I also wasn't talking about the rape element, just the 'bitch' part. That's still considered normal offensive vocabulary, unless I am very much mistaken, so it's not out of place as per my original comment.

I don't know...as someone who's father was in jail for a rather long period of time, I can safely say that the thugs in Arkham City are very tame in comparison to the sort of crap you would hear in a real prison. Vague rape references and use of the word "bitch" is nothing in comparison to being a seven year old girl, visiting her father in prison, and having other inmates in the same room calling you slut, bitch, whore, cunt and promising rape if they ever get out in front of your own dad.

And hell my own dad was in jail due to his inability to properly control his anger and one of the things I distinctly remember from my childhood is how he threw around words like "fuck" and "cunt" almost every day of his life. And always over the most petty crap. Stubbed his tow? "Fucking cunt!" Dropped a plate in the kitchen? "Fucking piece of cunting shit!" TV not working? "Piece of fucking shit cunt fucker!" ETC.
