I'm not the director or the actor. I have no idea why they chose to play it the way they did. I don't see why their interpretation of the character can't be wrong or skewed in order to make the movie more appealing.

The script has Xavier chatting up women. Since the comics also have Xavier in relationships with women and being sexually interested in them, it seems a bit of a stretch to say the screenwriters, the comic writers, the actors and the director are all just mistaken and the character is asexual.

idk, for some reason there have been a lot of secrets where someone says they find a character to be asexual even if that character seems to be a very sexual person in canon (like Harvey from Suits, even though he's a womanizer who seems to really enjoy getting laid)
