I always got the impression that Bro did everything in complete seriousness and Dave just tries to grasp at the hope that it's ironic. But it's not. Bro's just that weird.

It sometimes bugs me when people have difficulty grasping that the POV character has their own biases and interpretations.

Yes! See, I've always felt that Mrs. LaLonde was very serious about her love for her daughter. She wasn't being passive aggressive, Rose just saw it that way because she's a teenager and tends to over analyze.

Dave just doesn't want to admit his brother is a kind of creepy weeaboo fuck.

Honestly I didn't even read that far into Homestuck but this is pretty much the impression that I got too. And, while I found it super weird and disconcerting at times, I kinda loved him for it.

I'd go a step further and even say that Bro was trying to hide behind the ironic facade because he didn't want to admit to being seriously turned on by all that stuff. Which is kind of where Dave got the irony thing, except he didn't realize what was underlying.

Bro is kind of screwed up but I love him for it.
