Puppies are alive though. Having sex with a corpse would be more comparable to having sex with a taxidermized pet. Still, totally creepy as fuck - but not non-consensual in the way we describe it for living creatures.

I can't believe I'm going to ask this, but...is having sex with a dead animal still considered bestiality, then? After all, the meaning of bestiality doesn't specify that the animal has to be alive, anymore than rape does. Rape is just about not having consent, and bestiality is just about it being an animal. I feel like there's a better definition for these things somewhere, and I'm just wondering about your thoughts here (you seem to have the issue pretty well understood.)

I think here you're going to go into grey area again. I'm not sure if the word bestiality has the same level of unambiguous non-consent as rape has. But let's put it this way: a person having sex with an living animal would be abusing the animal. A person have sex with a dead animal is just...well, a person with a really disturbing sexual fetish. And that's the key difference there.

Ever heard of rape flight?

Necrophilia appears to be common in animals, with a number of confirmed observations. Kees Moeliker made one of these observations while he was sitting in his office at the Natuurmuseum Rotterdam, when he heard the distinctive thud of a bird hitting the glass facade of the building. Upon inspection, he discovered a drake mallard lying dead about two meters from the building. Next to the downed bird there was a second drake mallard standing close by. As he observed the odd couple, the living drake picked at the corpse of the dead one for a few minutes and then, without provocation, it mounted the corpse and began copulating with it. The act of necrophilia lasted for about 75 minutes, in which time, according to Moeliker, the living drake took two short breaks before resuming with copulating behavior. Moeliker surmised that at the time of the collision with the window the two mallards were engaged in a common motif in duck behavior which is called rape flight. "When one died the other one just went for it and didn't get any negative feedback -- well, didn't get any feedback," according to Moeliker. This is the first recorded case of homosexual necrophilia in the Mallard duck.

I have heard of the necrophilia ducks, yes. ducks are fucking basterd, though. They are also known to group-rape female ducks and other such gems. I think we should hold human being to higher standards. Also, there is a difference between being a necrophiliac and an opportunist, which the duck seems to have been...
