Uh...maybe because the developers took away this "goofy idiot"...





....and replaced him with someone who is Dark and Gritty and thinks smoking is the epitome of coolness. I'm not a huge fan of the series (DMC4 is the only one I've played). And even I can see why fans would be unhappy with the changes.

I haven't played the new version yet but:

1- I liked how original!Dante had so much fun with everything
2- I like dark and gritty characters too, but I don't like that new!Dante has a different face and hair. I liked the blue eyes and white hair!

i will never get tired of that first clip. dante trolling the villains' theatrics is so much fun.

so yep. put me on the list of fans who aren't happy with the new direction. i was hoping for a dmc5 where dante was even sillier than his dmc4 self...and we got this ninja theory thing instead. smh.

The new developer Tameem and CAPCOM took a shit all over the series, that's what happened. The series no longer revolves around said goofy idiot, it's now about some cliche' jackass who is supposed to be the coolest thing ever and suspiciously looks EXACTLY like the new asshole in charge of the reboot. It'd be one thing if Ninja Theory had anything credible in their corner so far as making games, but they really don't.

What fandom have you been watching? Since the first game hit the scene in 2001 the DMC fandom has been all about the crazy. Tentacle rape, incest, and zealous fangirls. AKA a lot of passionate, angry and opinionated people in general. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy you found a nice corner of it (they do exist and I too do love me some awesome fellow DMC fans) but let's not pretend this fandom was ever "just a bunch of goofy idiots" geeking out. That's like saying the SPN fandom is perfectly nice all across the board and well-adjusted.

I love how everyone makes assumptions about new Dante's personality when he's only spoken one line so far.

I also love how people are pulling all these reasons out of their asses to hate this new game (saying that Tameem designed Dante after himself; give me break. and yes, I've seen the pictures)

As someone who loves the series dearly and has for a long time, I also wish everyone would just sit down and shut up.

After DMC4, this series was in dire need of something fresh. Dante may have been his usual awesome self, but the game in general was totally drab and lazy as hell. (see: copy&pasting the game halfway through to replay the same levels with a diff chara, a story that wasn't even trying to explain itself, etc.)
