People think that when someone says 'that show is so shitty now' it means you're immediately supposed to not enjoy it.

Yes. the show is shitty now, doesn't mean you don't have to enjoy it.

Let's get over it, yes. the show is far from perfect, yes it's not as good as it used to be, yes, i still like, YES. I LIKE A SHITTY SHOW. There's nothing wrong with that!

But the fact that you like it doesn't make it good.

This is basically the same argument that I try to make every year the Emmy noms roll around and people freak out over shows/actors that were "snubbed again!!" There are definitely flaws in awards shows, but not all of those supposedly-snubbed shows actually deserve awards either. I wish more people would stop equating enjoyment of a show and quality of it. The two might often be connected, but they aren't necessarily so. And that's OK! Embrace the shittiness!

I could have written this secret. I LIKE THE SHOW. I genuinely think the show is as high quality now as it's ever been--I think season 4 and 5 were uneven at points, but overall? I think the show is well written, and I think that it's still brilliantly acted. I think Sera Gamble is doing a rockin' job. And season 7 is AWESOME so far.

Fuck the haters, anon. If you're in it for the pretty--that's great, they are pretty. But it isn't a shitty show--at least not from where I'm standing.

Because from what I've seen in the fandom claiming that the first three seasons were the epitome of quality while dissing all of 4,5 and 6 makes you old skool elite shiznit or something.

I'm like you OP. The only part of the show I didn't like was the beginning. Anything after season 1 finale was gold. I can't even pick my favorite between seasons 2,3,4 and 5.

People think it's terrible because it deviates so much from the first four seasons. Suddenly all these convoluted plotlines start coming into play about God and Hell and all that jazz, and all the characters start changing and become mere shells of their former selves. I have a friend who is very much into the Supernatural fandom, while I'm not, but I still watch the new episodes with her every week. I watched the first few seasons by myself, and it just seems to me (from the perspective of someone who watches the show with a casual eye) that seasons 1-4 and seasons 5-7 could be considered completely different shows. You watch a show and you fall in love with it, and then it completely flips and does a 180. If that happened with a show I loved, I'd be pissed too. I do think, however, that the recent episodes this season have been getting back to what the show used to be. I find myself tuning out the TV less now then I did before when I watch new episodes.

Hmm, I'm not in the fandom and I can't say much about whether the quality deteriorated or not (let's face it, Supernatural was never that much of a quality show), but I dislike most of the episodes after season three simply because I couldn't get into the whole angel business. I kind of liked the MOTW format, so when it deviated enough to lose my interest, I said fuck it and gave up, not because it's the 'cool thing to do' or whatever. I do wish Supernatural fans would stop alienating one another, but that's a dream than will never come to fruition.
