I'm in the middle of TNG, having been a fetus when the show premiered and just now playing catch up so I've got to DS9 yet, but I thought DS9 was supposed to be the best series? At least that's what I've heard from fans (causal fans and Trekkies). Not that you aren't entitled to your opinion. And, you certainly gave good reason why you didn't like it.

I made my husband start watching TNG with me because I though we could be geeky together since it's an old show and there's not really anyone to be fangirl-y/geeky about it with. This makes me wonder if he's telling me the truth about liking it.

It's very different from the other series. It emphasizes the long-running plot far more than the monster-of-the-week format of TNG. It also gets darker as it goes along, but that's kind of expected when they get into the war. I think it appeals to a slightly different type of audience than most of the Trek series.

Personally, I liked it, but it got sad towards the end, so it's not exactly what I curl up to watch on a rainy day. :P

To my mind it's the best of the Star Treks, especially watching it for the first time as an adult.

TOS and TNG are fun and all, and I especially have nostalgia for TNG(I grew up in TNG years, and only saw TOS when I was a teenager). Both are good times, but we all admit to their cheesiness, and they're very episodic. You know, They Find a Planet, A Thing Happens, Oh Noes!, Okay We Fixed the Thing, Little Emotional Thing At the End, CREDITS!

DS9 is the only Star Trek that has a multi-season long plot, and it's a lot more serious than previous series. It also gets into a lot more...adult? issues. Not as in porn >> But I mean it deals with alot of things like long, on going, no-simple-answer political problems and fights. Obviously ALL Star Treks deal with social issues in some way, but for my money, DS9 came at it from a more mature angle. The political intrigue is a bit more complex. I think this comes from the fact that the show is set on a space station instead of a ship that's moving around space.

Now, I've said all this, but the first two or three seasons are more episodic, so don't be all "WTF? Where is plot?" when it doesn't start right away :) But it's a fabulous show, and Sisko, for my money, is the best captain. He's fabulous beyond words.

I tried watching it, I called it Days Of Our Space 9 because it was all about who's crushing on who and who's having who's baby and he likes her but she's an incompatible species and he betrayed his best friend's trust over a sonic casserole dish and I dunno.

..Did you watch the same show as me? There's like, 1 episode dealing with a couple wanting a baby, and that gets kinda cut short by a death because there's a giant amazing space war occurring!

Actually more Trekkies hate DS9 than like it. And a lot of people who grew up in the period when DS9 was airing didn't like it because a year after that came Babylon 5 and that was just...infinitelly better. :D

OT, but JFC - you weren't around when TNG started and you're married?? I was in high school when it premiered. I'm OLLLLLLD. Yikes! LOL
