Notes:

Somebody's been spamming the submissions post with old secrets, apparently (for what actual purpose, I'm not sure). Just give me a heads up and I'll take the repeats down.

I have a theory about why lesbians like slashfic so much.

1. Women (IN GENERAL) find the relationship and emotional dynamics of sex far more sexy than representations of the act.

2. Male characters generally are more developed than female characters by writers, and so the audience is more invested in and in tune with their personalities.

Therefore, lesbians read slash fic because it is easy to find the relationship dynamic sexy.

I just explained that horribly, but I just spent four hours writing a research paper so I'll be lazy.

You don't get to excuse sexist stereotypes and shoot down counterarguments by writing a big ol' IN GENERAL, hth

not that anon but it's kind of true? not for all women of course, but as a general pattern. and not some essentialist thing about how women naturally are, but because people absorb the messages they're given about what they SHOULD be enjoying. It's not nice and it's not fair, but when you raise people with a stereotype of what they should be, odds are a bunch of them are going to be influenced by it.

It might be sexist stereotyping, but this is actually true for me and a lot of the women I know (not the lesbian part, the connect emotionally bit). We often connect emotionally to things and we find the emotional aspect of it sexy. Big deal. Doesn't mean men don't and doesn't mean that we can't connect to characters on other levels.

I'm not a huge fan of porn, but I prefer it when the characters are ones who are well-developed, regardless of their gender/sex. This, unfortunately, means that most of the porn I'm willing to read is centered around two dudes because they tend to be more developed in both canon and fanon, even though I never want to sleep with a man myself.
