No.

I'm sick of Doctor/Companion and him fucking them up to such a large degree they either never get out of the alien stuff, or they end up, well. Fucker over badly. Amy's so far the only New Who Companion who has moved on almost completely. She's a goddamn perfume model, and she fucking rocks it.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-04 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, she did move on... until the Wedding of River Song dragged her back in and not only gave her new memories of experiences she never had.

My main problem with Amy (and Rory) is their lack of emotion over not getting to raise their baby/baby being taken away in the first place. I'm glad we saw some of it with the Madam, but for me it was too little too late.

That's because Amy having a baby was a means to an end for Moffat, and its effects on the actual characters didn't matter to him.

And from what we've seen, while she cares about the Doctor, Amy isn't... Out hunting down aliens or working with aliens or anything. She's still a perfume model and married to Rory and living in a normal house and not involved with space and time shit.

Whereas all of the other Companions in New Who are... Well, Rose is presumably marrying a Doctor clone, trapped in another universe. Martha gave up being a nurse, apparently, and is working to kick alien ass while... Married to a guy heavily involved with the Doctor, who somehow crossed universes with no explanation. Oh, and Donna, who was so fucked up by the Doctor all of her development was erased.

Good job, Davies, for saying you can never have a remotely happy ending if you get involved with the Doctor.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-04 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
I think all the endings were meant to be have been (relatively) happy. And that's what pisses me off.

It's okay, the girls all got a happy ending, because they got married! See! Married= happiness forever!

(Anonymous) 2011-11-04 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
I saw it more like "The girls got a happy ending where they had someone who loved them and who they could love, instead of pining after the doctor. What's so bad about being in a longlasting relationship these days anyway? Marriage for those who want it is basicly the heaviest commitment you can make or get made to you. Why is this not happy? Do you have to be alone now to be a strong women? Well, thanks, in that case i'd rather be a whimp. You see it rather onesided, too. It's not just the women getting married, the men get too. They are forming a team that will be more important to them than adventures in space, this "getting" out of this nonlinear and for humans not really healthy lifestyle is the happy end.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-04 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think my problem with it came with it being so blatantly marrying everyone off. I feel really bad for Donna on husband number three (she doesn't remember the first two, or at least can't remember just WHY things didn't work out with Lance) and absolutely no clue what else she had been doing.

Martha getting married didn't bother me (because it was already in the cards) but the fact it was such a random switch to Mickey. It made marriage the end all in this case, we didn't get to see any actual love take place. Them being BFFs running around would have been much more satisfactory and less forced (to me). (And, for the record, I like the idea of Mickey teaming up with someone as kickass as Martha. I do think they're great together, it just annoys me if it was the end all)

Rose bothers me because we already know the Doctor, what he's like, and Handy IS the Doctor, just with a bit of Donna thrown in. Now, the argument may be that the human part of Donna will keep him level, but remember the human part of Donna that is in Handy was the one that was super discontent with her life and wanted to go traveling with the Doctor. Handy has all the memories of the Doctor. He knows what he's missing. As for Rose, she already had it in her head that Handy wasn't "her" Doctor (like with Amy and the Ganger!Doctor) and while she loved him because he's like the Doctor, I don't think she'll ever fully equate him with the Doctor. This doesn't seem like a very healthy relationship to start with, and the Doctor just threw Handy there and left the two of them.

My annoyance here is that EVERYONE was established to find twu wuv. If they had left one or two ambiguous I would've been fine.

Also, I'm sorry for implying that I thought strong women didn't get married. I think the two are not mutually exclusive, I also hate it when looking at, say, Princess and the Frog or Mulan, where people complain that they get married off every time as if women can't be strong and married. My problem is more in the how it happened, not that it happened. If that makes sense?

Amy's so far the only New Who Companion who has moved on almost completely.

Dr. Martha Jones-Smith says, "Hi."

(Anonymous) 2011-11-04 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, because hunting aliens and marrying a guy who magically got back from another universe with no explanation is totes moving on from her life with the Doctor.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-04 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that one is debatable. I mean, she's not like Rose, who got into just to find the Doctor. She learned she had the power to save the world by traveling with the Doctor, yes, and now she's fighting threats she didn't knew existed before, but she's fighting because she wants to protect the earth.

I have no defense for the Mickey thing, however, especially since it was out of the blue and dumped Tom Milligan for no reason.
