Oh god, don't get me started on Sarah Jane! I adore her, and I adore Elisabeth Sladen, and I was just so mad when they decided to write her as a lonely old woman pining for the Doctor.

As I'm sure 70's Sarah Jane would paraphrase the Doctor; what unmitigated balderdash.

They sort of did the same with Jo as well. She did a bit better than Sarah Jane, having lots of kids and grandchildren and travelling around the world etc. But when she meets Eleven she gives almost the same speech Sarah Jane gave Ten about being left behind, waiting for him, not thinking he'd ever forget her etc.

The annoying thing with Jo was that it was the Doctor who'd pretty much begged her to travel with him and she said no because that wasn't the life she wanted and it was the Doctor who had to walk out of her life. Wheras I could almost buy the angst with Sarah Jane because the Doctor did just dump her when she didn't want to leave and then never come back (though the romance thing still annoys me because they always seemed like brother/sister to me). But with Jo I wanted it to be the Doctor's feelings of rejection that were brought up when they were reunited. :-/
