I really want to go the high YMMV road route, but I have honestly no idea where you're getting that from. For one, this is Doug's main job and with all the Fan Dumb he's had, he's still enjoying it. Secondly, he did Doug's First Movie last week which was widely requested. Thirdly, did you see that amazing Nostalgia-Ween opening? If he was phoning it in we wouldn't get that.

I get that feeling on some of his stuff, but not all of it. I wouldn't be surprised if he's feeling a little burned out, though, he's been doing this as his full-time job for a while.

Right, turning out a new review once a week, plus any of his other side stuff like the Bum or Ask That Guy, and it's understandable if he's occasionally burned out on what he's doing. But he still clearly has enthusiasm for it. He wouldn't keep doing it if he didn't.

Especially as he's actually apologized for "only" getting three videos out per week. Not to mention the complaining when he went on holiday for the first time in ages.

Definitely. I think when he speaks as just "Doug", himself, it's still clear he loves his job. He's really enthusiastic in stuff like audio commentaries.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. If you do the same thing for long enough you're going to get burned out; it doesn't mean you don't care any more, or that it's time to throw in the towel. If anything it means he deserves a break, and if and when he does take one everybody is gonna throw a shit fit over it.

I definitely felt he was phoning it in for The Haunting review. I was looking forward to his picking apart the movie, since it's one of his most-hated movies of all time. But he spent most of it imitating Owen Wilson and ogling Catherine Zeta Jones. Which would have been fine...but for a 20 minute long review, I expected more pointing-out-the-flaws and less "lol this movie is stupid. Now here's me screaming for a full minute"

Did we perhaps see a different review? Because he was comparing it to the old one a lot and his bit about the horrible writing of gay people really needed to be said.

I agree. That was one of my favorites of his videos from the last couple months.

I get that feeling more on some reviews than others-- like you can kind of tell he's not as happy with that particular video. But I've never gotten the feeling like he's unhappy with what he's doing. I mean, he always seems really full of energy in his out of character videos.

As others above me have said, I get it with some reviews but not others. This is his full time job so I can understand feeling a bit burned out or struggling to keep up with the schedule but I thoroughly enjoyed most of Nostalgia-Ween. I do wish he'd stop screeching as much though.

Funny you should say that. He got yelled at last week for, um, not yelling enough. If he is feeling burned out, I don't blame him, he can't seem to do anything right in the eyes of some fans.

I thought the reviews had decreased in quality for a while there, but he's getting better again. Maybe he's figured out that while we find his angry rants funny, we also don't like him shredding something that's just mediocre and not really crap. He seems to be hitting a balance between giving kudos to the good points and joking about the bad points that's really working.

I like it best when he has variety. Suffering and tears are wonderful, but it's sweet when he's having fun and he typically makes very good points

I agree. I especially hate how every review has to have that same fucking joke where his brain breaks and he starts screaming incomprehensibly.

No. Not every review. Last time was the Haunting and the time before that was prolly the LP.

I always thought it was because he was running out of nostalgic movies to review.

I feel the same about other reviewers, though. Some seem as if they're running out of steam.

I just think 2011 has just been a meh year for him (well, how I feel anyways) and that I hope 2012 will be better. *shrugs* Though I admit I am now officially tired of his shrills.

i like it when he tones down the yelling

I've wondered this about all of them to be honest. For some of the contributors (Doug mainly) it's their actual job. They have to do it or get another job. I mean, if they really hated it they'd quit, but..

At the same time, even though I don't follow every video by Doug/Nostalgia Critic, I haven't really noticed this. I've been less interested in him personally, but that's me.

I also thought his recent (NC) reviews weren't that great, as if he's lacking in inspiration for the moment. It happens to everyone. I'm sure he'll get his mojo back eventually. In the meantime, I'll enjoy Paw, Todd, CR, NChick, and Benzaie.

One thing of Doug's that I have consistently liked are his movie reviews and top 11 lists he's done as himself. It's really interesting to see what a calm guy he really is, and you can tell he really cares about movies.
