I just have a thing for the "opposites attract" trope, as well as probably every variation of "young woman + scary whatever"--see my default icon for another example (I'm also fond of the descent of Persephone and most iterations of the Death and the Maiden theme).

While I do agree that it'd be nice to see the genders swapped (Jaime/Brienne, mentioned above, is the only such example I can think of and it's one of my favorite ASOIAF relationships), there's something to be said for the archetypal significance of a beautiful young woman as symbolic of life and regeneration in the face of ugliness and death. And I'm gonna shut up now because the fact that I just used the term "archetypal significance" in a thread about a Disney secret indicates that I may be getting carried away.

What, something like, "the archetypal significance of a beautiful young woman being a symbol of life and regeneration in the face of ugliness and death is sexist and rooted in outdated misogyny"?

Um, no, more like "Women were always connected with the advent of new life, especially before men's part in procreation was identified, and it therefore makes sense that a young woman would be archetypal shorthand for new life and renewal, as in Kore/Persephone." But hey, feel free to assume that I'm mindlessly regurgitating patriarchal tropes rather than examining and actively critiquing them if that's what makes you happy.

I like you, because you can say this:

"the archetypal significance of a beautiful young woman as symbolic of life and regeneration in the face of ugliness and death"

without whining about why it's supposedly 'sexist' or 'misogynistic' or anything. It's neither of those things and I'm happy someone else recognises it. There's nothing sexist about the inherent aesthetic symbolism and artistic meaning of masculine and feminine archetypes. They're powerful symbols rich with meaning, whether they fit your political ideology or not.

Despite what the anon above me tries to say, politics cannot trump aesthetics in the end, unless your fanatical devotion to a political ideology has left you artistically bankrupt.
