That's because the culture is misogynistic as fuck and traditional familial systems means you're shit out of luck when you're old and your one child who is a daughter left home to marry. Doesn't mean population control is inherently a bad idea.

Then again, most places are misogynistic as fuck so maybe it is.

China is overpopulated to a nightmarish extent even with the spawning control. I can't imagine how much worse things might have been. Imagine half an Earth of Calcuttas.

Actually it did achieve its purpose. The population growth slowed a lot. India on the other hand, experienced exponential growth and might have a higher population than China in coming years. Yeah, misogyny and all that jazz sucks, but it was effective.

And the fact they now have had to have whats basically baby letter boxes to try and deal with all the abandoned babies that just get left places as a result of people not being 'allowed' them.

You mean all the abandoned girl babies.

Well you know, normally I would agree with you, but I think it is really harmful to have that many children. Besides the fact that it's practically impossible to raise that many kids on your own (but that's why you have teen daughters for RIGHT) and it's not fair to the kids to deal with the repercussions of that, it's really, really fucking bad for the planet at time when we really do have more people than we have resources

So yeah, I respect women's reproductive choices but you know, HAVE SOME GOD DAMN FUCKING RESPONSIBILITY

yeah, and didn't her last kid nearly die from something related to her pre-eclampsia? AUGH. the human body can't handle birthing that many babies, jesus.

But they can afford their children and live in a country with a stable-to-declining population. How are they harming anybody by having those children? Resources and environmental impact are global only on a very large scale; in this case, that one family has basically no impact. It wouldn't be a good idea for lots of people to do what they did, but they're not bad people for doing it.

I interpreted it to mean not actually limiting kids, but having media show people being happy with one or no kids. Television is excellent for normalizing concepts that may scare people.

If that is what OP meant, I totally agree. If they did mean actually limiting kids...that's stupid.
