Sorry but the rest of us know Grell is meant to be a joke, because that's what gay/trans people are to the Japanese. Jokes and punchlines.

Anyone who pretends otherwise is either Western-biased and too ignorant to know it/change it, or is so desperate for a trans character that they project being trans onto characters who are not.

I'm pretty sure Grell's character isn't meant to be a joke in the manga, and honestly, isn't assuming that all japanese people are homophobic and trans phobic just a teeny bit racist?

Recent chapters have calmed Grell way the fuck down, especially compared to the Anime.

Yes, Anime!Grell is played as a joke. Manga!Grell isn't, anymore.

...But the most recent chapters have been rather graceful with Grell, and she hasn't been nearly as much of a joke. The biggest jokes were the Titanic reference and how pissed she got over the face injury. Otherwise, she's been... Rather calm, for Grell, and not nearly as flamboyant. She's actually doing her job, and not complaining too much.
