Typo aside, when they went all shock and awe at Castiel being AN ANGEL when they'd heard his name repeated several times I finally realized (yes it took me that long) that for all that Sam and Dean do a lot of 'hunting things' they... clearly aren't really all that good at it. The research aspect of it anyway.

Certainly seems that way. I swear, once Bobby became a show regular, it was like they just pawned all their research off on him, and as a result he gave them misleading information so they'd sound like idiots.

They hunted demons at that point, not angels, so why would they research them and have knowledge about them since it didn't affect their hunting? Dean didn't even believe in God or angels until Castiel showed up.

el denotes 'god/in god/of god' - while present in the names of some demons(/fallen angels) it's pretty goddamn common in angel names. You would have thought that would have come up in some demonology studies or something. I'm not arguing that up until that point angels hadn't appeared so it would have made sense to dismiss the theory, it's the fact that they apparently didn't even try to Google Castiel's name and that they were COMPLETELY BAFFLED THIS IS SO OUT OF LEFT FIELD NOTHING COULD HAVE POSSIBLY PREDICTED THIS that he was an angel.

Again, they deal with the supernatural. It seems kind of dumb as shit to assume that if one supernatural creature exists well clearly the rest of them can't.

And they didn't just hunt demons. They hunted all manner of supernatural beasties from folklore. Like it's such a goddamn stretch that if shapeshifters, demons, old gods and the like exist that perhaps angels might, too? Especially Sam, since he's shown to be the 'believer', he should have at least went "Wait that naming construct sounds familiar maybe I should consult SOME search engine with this apparently supernaturally gifted ability to find strong connections to unsecured wireless internet."

You'd just think if their life was on the line here they'd be a little less, I dunno, sloppy.

That's not a typo. It's a typo if it's once. It's spelled that way both times. They actually think it's spelled that way. I find that way more offensive than this Uriel crap. (Especially since their graphic has the word spelled CORRECTLY in it. Yeesh.)
