You don't need to be an active part of fandom to read the fic. In fact, considering the staggeringly large volume of fic out there, you could easily spend your time doing nothing but read :D

(having said that - you've only just started the show? Maybe best to watch as much as you can before looking for fic, unless you don't mind spoilers.)

(I'm on season four, so I've seen some very enjoyable, ship-worthy scenes by now. But I DO know that plot really gets serious (while not knowing the details specifically) past season four, so it's probably best to catch up first before I start reading fics.)

Yay, welcome to the fandom!

Season four started...September of 2008, so go on over to spnnewsletter and delve into the archives! Anything before that date is spoiler-free and safe and you can read all the wincest your little heart desires.
