Captain America still taught me more about what it means to be a good person than any character in any classic novel or any other piece of "real literature" ever did.
Furthermore, if you're clearly not a comics fan and have likely never read any (assuming from your comment about having never had the urge to buy any), then I really don't think you have any manner of basis to pass your judgement. If you're ever compelled to pick one up, though, I suggest starting with Watchmen, if what constitutes "literature" is so important to you--it's apparently such a "waste of paper" that it's listed as one of Time's 100 best novels.
If that doesn't tickle your fancy, Anon, then I suggest you get off your high horse and find something you DO enjoy reading, and leave the rest of us to read whatever the hell we enjoy reading. We're really not hurting you any, though clearly you've somehow been personally offended by the very existence of comic books.
Captain America might have something to teach you about tolerance, actually.
