Yeah, it gets dogpile-y sometimes over stupid stuff. But I fucking love that they dogpile people for actual reasons. It's nice to have a comm where being a casually racist, homophobic, misogynistic asshat is not okay.

In general, if someone is offensive, is called on it, and they ACKNOWLEDGE IT AND APOLOGIZE FOR BEING OFFENSIVE, people back off. All this so-called dogpiling happens when the OP is all "wah why is everyone so mean to me", "I'm sorry YOU were offended" "No really, let me explain to you why I'm 100% right". You still think you're right and you're "entitled to your opinion"? That's fine. But everyone else is still entitled to tell you they think you're an asshat. It goes both ways. Take it to your private journal if all you want is people agreeing with you.

If someone wants to be a racist, homophobic douche, they can do it somewhere else. I'm not shedding any tears for those folks.

So the response is to dogpile people and insult them? As opposed to, oh I don't know, teaching them why what they said is wrong and/or not acceptable? That's...not any better than the people using slurs. All youre doing is lowering yourself to their level. "Well they offended me, so I'm going to offend them back!"

Why the fuck is it my responsibility to ~patiently educate~ some ignorant bigoted asshole (for example, danubee - see up thread to see what I'm talking about) when I'm trying to just go about my life without dealing with offensive asshats everywher I turn?

If someone thinks it's funny to joke about my sexual orientation or makes sexist comments around me, why the fuck is it my responsibility to 'be the bigger person', step back, and patiently spend several hours calmly explaining why what they said is so offensive and hurtful?
