Most female characters turn into absolutely horrible and often sexist cliches once they're written as wanting children, so I can definitely see why you would lose respect for them if it was because of what happens when they decide to have children.
If however, it's purely because of the decision to have children, regardless of any character changes that do or don't take place...UGH. Nothing wrong with wanting kids!
