Uh, I'm not saying all pregnant women/new mothers are like this, but that's often true to life. A baby's a huge deal and does completely change your life and your priorities. Not denying that it doesn't make for pretty boring television a lot of the time, but the catch-22 is that if they show her behaving exactly as before then the character ends up looking like a neglectful parent.

I don't have kids, but I've seen it happen with family, friends and acquaintances. My mom told me once that for awhile when my brother and I were little a lot of her old interests just sort of faded into the background.

Except that's not what they do.

They take this woman who was previously badass, and then suddenly all she talks about is the baby. Her life doesn't extend beyond the baby. (Meanwhile, the father gets to balance both very easily.) I'm not saying neglect the kid. I'm saying don't turn her into a sexist stereotype--especially when it's ONLY the woman who has this happen to her.

This, and that's typically also what happens when she gets involved with the male lead.

I realise that IRL new relationships and babies do take over your life for a while but I am watching generally shows about spies, cops, space flight, magic users, time travel, &c--it's not the most realistic genre and nobody watches this stuff to get a domesticity fix.
