though it may not be your exact cup of tea, I wanted to throw in props to Tomoko Yamashita as well, especially Illumination and Koi no Hanashi ga Shitai (short story anthologies; drama, mostly, but also comedy); her Dining Bar Akira (never read) and Black-Winged Love are also licensed in English). She's one of my favorites, but her stories, while all involving gay/bi/questioning males, don't necessarily have them as the main characters -- you see them through the eyes of relatives, friends, and classmates, males and females, as often as not. The relationships themselves may drive the story, but aren't always the point of the story. All sides of falling in love/lust, mutual or not, are depicted: it drives characters towards sweetness, courage, empathy, and happiness, or magnifies their personal capacity for those things; but it also does the same for ugliness, cowardliness, and uncertainty. Finally, even the ones that suggest a relationship will work out don't always depict sex.

I personally like the above, since I think it's generally handled very well in her work and the characters get some complexity to them. So while I probably like Illumination the most as a collection, the caveat is that it's also on the bummer side of things (though the extras at the end with brief glimpses of what happens after three of the stories help lighten the melodrama). Koi no Hanashi ga Shitai has mostly "things work out or on their way to working" stories (though one titled "Re: Hello" is right there to stomp on your heart a little). Black-Winged Love has two strong lead stories, imo, but the last 2 get skeevy with non-con.

And second on Youneda Kou. Also not always all-sex all-the-time.
