Try refreshing the image. That's what I did. It went from being about 100 x 200 pixels to being 300 x 400 pixels. I don't know why.

Well, the Doctor DID have relationships in the past. We know he had at least one grandchild, and I'm assuming she case into the world the usual way. It's the shipping with humans/companions that just doesn't work for some people.

I agree with this. I mean, I kind of ship him with Donna, but mostly he doesn't work with human characters for me. I can totally ship him with River, Jack, and the Master though.

yeah but that entirely depends on which canon you go by tho. it was implied in one of the radio plays/some novels that his first marriage was, at least to some degree, a political one and that Time Lords use looms to grow their offspring - not biological methods.

It's specifically the shipping with companions that bothers me. Not that genuine affection can't exist, but since he's responsible for their welfare that's just too much of a power imbalance for me.

There are many wonderful, loving relationships that can exist between parent/child or mentor/ward, I just am not comfortable with adding sex and romance to the mix.

I agree with this. I kind of vaguely ship him with Donna (but mostly just love their platonic relationship) because with her it was different and she wasn't just following him and she was willing to stand up and question him. That being said, I'm much more comfortable shipping him with River, the Master, or even Jack. Because while their isn't anyone who is completely his equal, those three come the closest, and they can take care of themselves and just as often are rescuing him.

What is a long-term relationship for a Time Lord? I mean, what are you considering "would never work long term"? Because, honestly, I doubt anyone is going to stay completely monogamous for hundreds of years. With the Doctor, I tend to prefer the on again/off again thing of oh, sometimes we're together, and then we'll go 60 years without seeing each other, and then we might be together for 5-10 before going our separate ways again. Of course, I also only ship him with the Master, Romana, and River, all of whom that could actually work worth. The human companions, not so much. Well, unless he picks up Methos, or something.

I don't see the Doctor has having a healthy romantic/Sexual relationship with any companion. See Icon. I see it as messed up, bittersweet and wrong on both sides. The Doctor knows they can't settle down and have a family. For all we know the companion knows that and wants to get down and dirty with the Doctor. I'm mostly Old School And I can see Five/Turlough being this way. Turlough in my mind wouldn't want the Doctor forever just right now. I can See my OTP Six/Peri being full of messy emotions some of the expanded universe say bad touch happened in Peri's past... and well...
Also Doctor/Romana? He had a Shot with her and she left, she was Time Lady and he a Time Lord and they seemed quite Romantic at times...City of Death is almost a ROM-COM. I think the Doctor being the Doctor is just crap at relationships, no one can run with him forever. No matter what they want. And he ain't the settling kind. As for the other Rouge Time lord/Lady? They are all odds. One wants to experiment the universe apart, the other wants under his control. And The Doctor can't let either happen.

Well, when I ship people, it doesn't always mean I think they can/will have happy fluffy long-term bliss together. I mean I agree with you, I don't think the Doctor could have a long-term relationship by his standards, because 1) he travels so much and 2) the people he travels with tend to die/leave/get otherwise lost. But that doesn't mean he can't feel anything for people, or express those feelings.

ETA: Appropriate icon because the only long-lasting relationship the Doctor has had is with the TARDIS, and I'm okay with that.
