I used to collect merchandise, probably not a lot (I didn't have a lot of money) but I ended up stopping when I realized that all merchandise tends to do is sit in the back of a closet and collect dust.

So I made a rule for myself, I cannot buy things unless they have some sort of USE, be it a book, a dvd, a cd, clothing, whatever, there has to be some entertainment value past sitting on a shelf.

This rule did end up making my dvd collection HUGE but I think it helps, because I no longer buy things for the "collectable" reasons. Collections can often be a black hole for your money because if you love complete collections like I do, you always feel bad when you don't have everything (which is a problem because I never could afford everything.)

I hate the lengths creators go to in order to keep those kind of plots going. It usually requires one or more characters to constantly hold the Idiot Ball and for most, if not all, character development to be immediately forgotten by the next episode. (I always wondered why Wile E. Coyote didn't just order some food, if he had the money to make multiple orders that were able to be delivered to the middle of the desert.)

Honestly, I'd be surprised if Imaginaerum even gets a wide release anywhere outside of Europe (especially here in the US) in the first place. Nightwish just isn't popular enough outside of Europe for that sort of thing, and it's probably going to be far too small and niche for most mainstream critics to take notice.

Regardless, now that I've heard the album and absolutely love it to pieces, I am still looking forward to the movie and hope that it's as good.
