Yeeeaaah, I don't put disclaimers on anything (even fics on comms that say 'use a disclaimer' in the rules) and I've never had my stuff taken down. It's not like anyone polices that stuff.

I honestly have seen fics taken down on AFF that didn't fit their definition of a disclaimer. Like I said, I can't speak for all of the interwebs, but on that site, I KNOW that rule is enforced. The mods there are uber-strict.

(Also, I'm not saying I agree with the policy, I just wanted to provide an explanation for why people on certain sites use one.)

Admittedly, I have no familiarity with AFF (mostly because I cannot stand the number of hoops you have to jump through just to access the damned site - agh, it's worse than viewing game trailers) so I guess I stand corrected!

I haven't posted anything to aff in a while but they used to put an automatic boilerplate disclaimer on everything and they definitely would take stuff down.

They still have the boilerplate disclaimer itself, but supposedly you're allowed to write your own version of that disclaimer if you want to say something specific. I've seen some authors rewrite it and cover all the basic disclaiming criteria that AFF says they want, and AFF mods still tell them to change it or risk having the fic taken down. Just one of many things that are very wrong with the way that site is run.

Yeah, the mess the site has become is part of why I haven't posted there in a long time. It's a shame because I still remember reading there when ff.net first took off all the NC-17 fic I didn't know where else to find it.

(It wasn't run so well then either, but I'm still nostalgic for it...)
