Edward and Bella's relationship had a lot of problems, but worse than any of the problems was the fact that their actions were almost always presented as justified or understandable because they were in perfect true love. If Bella or Edward had come to realize that killing themselves because they couldn't be together wasn't a great idea, a lot of problems could have been avoided...instead we're given "Well, if the most perfect person in the world loved you and then left you, wouldn't you curl into a little ball and refuse to see the light of day again?" I know those aren't Meyer's exact words, but the general idea was that he's so wonderful that Bella's actions after he left were understandable. It all just stems from bad writing.

I think a lot of the concepts in Twilight had the potential to be good had they been in the hands of a capable writer. One in particular that I liked was the idea that the vampire was frozen at the time of his turning and thus spoke like they were from a different time. I thought it was a neat idea, but sadly none of the vampires actually spoke in old timey lingo...they just occasionally used big or odd words (Edward saying, "Bella, you're so obtuse!" comes to mind...). There's more things that I thought could have been really good had they been written well, and it shows that Stephenie Meyer is at least creative and good at coming up with interesting ideas for stories and characters.

Except sparkling vampires. There's no way that idea could be any better no matter who was writing it.

The sparkling business makes it believable that she was inspired by a dream. Only in a dream would that be okay. Or in a movie that just ran with the emotion driven visuals without pretending to have a story that holds up. And I hate that it's generated so many gay jokes.

IA with he rest of your post.

Agree with all of this 100% except the idea that Stephanie Meyer is creative. I didn't see anything creative about her ideas. Most of her "creativity" occurred to her in a dream (I guess her dreams are creative?). Most of what she wrote was flat and boring and it was very apparent to me that while she was writing, she had no idea in which direction the story was going, and that she was writing just for the sake of writing and continuing the story, ideas or no.

Twilight was meant to be a stand-alone novel; she definitely had no idea where she was going with the sequels because it wasn't even meant to be a series.

That's the thing. I can't believe that everyone in her life thought her relationship was healthy. Except we never see or hear from these people and it's always how Bella sees the world. The only person who was outright opposed to their relationship was Jacob and the rest of the Quilette(sp?). Sure, the Cullens came around, but really who cares what they think? They're not human and their ideals probably don't match with humans anyways. They say they're family, but they're a clan. Bella's "friends" probably all thought it was a bad relationship, but they weren't close enough to say anything and probably kept it to themselves. The same could be said for Charlie. Her mom wasn't around enough to see if it was unhealthy because all she heard about it was whatever wonderful things Bella told her. Since it's all what Bella thinks it gets very annoying and a better author could've done so much more to introduce how other characters felt about situations because I'm sure they all didn't think the same way as Bella.

And I could believe "sparkling vampires" if it was just Bella's interpretation of skin that's so old and tough it resembles stone, like how how granite can seem to "sparkle" on really sunny days.

I remember reading somewhere that in Meyer's novel about Bree Tanner, a minor character in the Twilight series, Bree did not find Edward that attractive, only just kind of cute, suggesting that him being godlike was only Bella's way of seeing him.
I can't picture Meyer being that deep, personally, but I kind of love the idea of Bella being an unreliable narrator. It explains a lot.
How interesting would it be to read it from one of her human friend's point of view?
