The ending annoyed me because Satine died. Not that it wasn't hinted at from the beginning but it made the whole triumph of good over evil that came before it pointless. In the end it didn't matter who Satine ended up with because all they got was her corpse.

Personally, I felt the triumph of good over evil was less about love overcoming all odds but more about remaining true to your heart in the face of evil. And eventually, she did in the end. Whether or not she was alive to be the Duke and Christian's trophy wasn't the point?

I don't think it was pointless. I mean, they stuck with their convictions (Christian and Satine realized that love was more important than hatred [Christian]/comfort [Satine] and the MR crew didn't betray their Bohemian ideals) even though it came with consequences because selling out their soul was a far worse fate for all involved except The Duke.

It was a moral bittersweet victory.
