I would personally suggest they try Problem Sleuth instead. I couldn't get into Homestuck either, for the same reason as you, but then I got to the flash where you can pick other adventures from John's videogame cd rack, and picked Problem Sleuth, loved it, finished it, and then returned to Homestuck, finally enjoying the humor and the jokes.

that's actually how i got into homestuck! i hated it to death for the longest time but somehow picked up PS and managed to get through it all so i gave homestuck another try and behold.

and yeah there are a lot of jokes that originate from hussie's other work, PS especially, so it helps to give it a try. like the whole arms thing finally didn't make me want to kms lol
