You really should have known better, OP. I'm not sure if it's just me, but every time I actually do come across super best friends who are M/F who don't dig each other (either from the beginning or eventually), one of them turns out to be gay.

I think I made it quite clear that that was my own observation, based on personal (albeit limited) experiences regarding popular media. I never said that it was something I believed in.

Uh, because she made a truthful statement? Whether or not you want what she said to be accurate, or whether or not you believe that her observations are a deviation from the norm, you can't call her an asshole just because she made a statement of fact.

I was referring to TV shows and such. From what I've encountered thus far, anyway (save a few).

I don't believe that men and women can't be BFFs, though. I've never personally seen it (the friends I knew who were like the OP described ended up dating eventually, though it took years for it to happen), but I know it's possible.

Let me elaborate.

YES. And I really don't understand it. People never stop to consider that maybe people simply word things the wrong way sometimes (for whatever reason, be it inarticulateness, English not being their first language, a mental disorder, or even sheer carelessness). Instead of simply asking the person to elaborate or clarify their meaning, or politely stating their issues with the comment, they start insulting the person. And then they get mad when the person insults back and have the gall to feel justified. *shakes head*

(Though, admittedly, I too need to work on my temper. Unfortunately I'm pretty defensive and respond to insult brashly.)

I've had the same observations, truly.
And if they are boy/girl best friends, who aren't in love, theyat least TRIED dating before deciding to be friends.
Hell, my boyfriend is bisexual and has almost exclusively had female best friends and has crushed on all of them, even if the feeling fades, during some period of time, no matter how short that period of time is, he has crushed on them. And usually the girls liked him, too.
Every girl I've known who has been good friends with a guy has at least considered him in a romantic way, too.
It's the way it is. At least as it appears to me.
