Watch funny videos right afterward -if they are somehow related to the horror things you saw first, they help diminish the impact, because just as you are getting scared you remember the funny thing. :D

So, after hearing about the MLP flashgame "The Story of Blanks", I should watch hilarious MLP vids? I can do that! ^_^

Not all of them, no. But I'm doing an archive binge (is this the right term?) of all the fridge horror pages tvtropes has. There are some that, yeah, are ~~really~~ kind of scary, and others are 'meh'. :)

If I read TVTropes horror-based stuff long enough I get scared too. Seconding the funny music videos though.

I'll keep that in mind. ^_^

That's fine! I'm just the kind person who finds 'what ifs' and 'could be's' and 'did you sees?' more terrifying than what's actually on screen sometimes. ♥

yeah I know that what you can create in your mind is always worse than any visuals you get, but how can you be scared of things that aren't real? I have never been able to understand this and probably never will.

that said, nothing on the fridge horror page for real life is even that scary to me. plenty of things on there are genuinely horrific and were probably very scary for the people involved but to me they just don't elicit that same reaction :/

I can be genuinely afraid of things that aren't real because that's just the way I am. My imagination tends to run away from me, and one minute I'm thinking, "hmmm I need to walk home alone in the dark", and the next minuted I'm thinking "that shadow looks like a serial killer". It's just the way that I am.

I have an active imagination too though

It's cool, I mean, if everyone was a carbon copy of each other... That'd hella weird for one, and for another... It'd be really boring. :/

the only thing that I've ever been scared by is sleep paralysis and I find it next to impossible to convey how scary that is and that is a very real thing.

I dunno... I'm not sure it's something that can just be 'gotten', ya know? Maybe it is, though, and someone will be able to explain it to you in a way that makes sense. ♥

Oh, yeah, I agree- that's terrifying. I think the scariest thing for me was last year I worked at a camp in the woods. We had actual bears in the woods. I would have to walk by myself around camp at night with the bears in the woods. Yep.

haha maybe but I'm not holding my breath on it!

that sounds intense! not a reality I've ever faced so its impact is lessened somewhat but I find it easier to appreciate why you would be scared over it versus somebody who gets scared watching oh idk Paranormal Activity (which btw didn't even make me jump).

Fridge horror is my favourite type of scary thing. Even if it's not necessarily horrifying, and even if it's only a little unsettling, the thought that something so 'normal' or even nice or something could potentially be horrifying if you think about it (or MORE horrifying) has a certain appeal. I also love the fridge brilliance as well.
