98%? No. I'll give you that it's more prevalent than het fic but come on... you must not be looking very hard for fic if you can't find any good het fic. Give me a fandom and a pairing and I promise you I'll be able to find at least one epically awesome fic (assuming it's not a small fandom from years ago with a really rare crack pairing).

I'll have you know I've just found one author who writes a bunch of Mal/Kaylee and I've read one from them and another one... Okay, yeah, they didn't qualify as epically awesome so I'm still looking BUT STILL! lol I'll come back and update when I find one.

Okay! this one is good (http://zenstate.livejournal.com/1824.html). Mal/Kaylee aren't together but there is a tone of them. Kaylee is cute. Should I keep searching? Here's (http://fireflyfanfic.livejournal.com/tag/mal%2Fkaylee) a link to all the Mal/Kaylee posted to this site. I did not check anywhere but LJ so I'm sure there is at least one good Mal/Kaylee fic on ff.net or somewhere like that. I've never read much Firefly fic so I don't know of any archives for it but I could still google around for it. :]

I'm a slasher, but I feel compelled to sort of play devil's advocate here and point out that one epically awesome fic is not nearly enough!

Well, no, one epically awesome fic isn't enough... But I don't plan on personally finding more than one epically awesome fic for the OP (unless of course our fandom tastes match up and I've read whatever pairing they like (or know someone who has) and can thus rec a lot). I guess I should have said instead that I will try my damndest to find at least one good fic and hopefully that will pan out with my finding some kind of archive, author, or comm that's worthwhile. I think it's possible to find plenty of good fic for most het pairings, assuming there was once or is now an active fandom (but that goes for slash too, ne?). Now if the OP had said they can't find good femslash and slash is prevalent? Oh, yeah, that is very true. In the case of femslash I might only be able to find one epically awesome fic for the pairing depending on the fandom/pairing.

Also, Gillian Anderson is so gorgeous! ♥
