Are my troll-googles on too tight? I really can't tell any more. On the one hand, we have "Ugh, too much slash in my fandom!" followed quickly by "but I'm bicurious so I obviously don't hate homosexuals" and rounded off with a persecution complex, all over a Cloud/Sephiroth background. I'm torn between "troll" or "recently disillusioned thirteen-year-old-twat who is starting to mature as a fan but hasn't quite figured it out yet."

Sometimes I feel the same way. It's partially why I actually *do* like ff.net, despite the detractors- you can sort for your favorite ships, and ignore the slash if that's not your thing.

I'm confused... you're sad there's not more well written het fic for your preferred fandom, and yet you complain about having to sift through poorly written slash fic? Why couldn't you just say, "I have difficulty finding well written fic about my preferred pairing/plot point"?

I'll assume this is not a troll, since I know many people who think that way.

All I have to say is: it depends on the fandom (because I know fandoms with little-to-none canon female characters tend to be very slash-heavy), on your sources (are you just hanging out at the pit or have you tried more sites?) and your involvement (because sometimes you need to go out of your way and ask around to get to stuff).

But then again, fanfiction is there for you to read to enjoy. If it's not giving you enough joy that you're willing to look for the fics you desire, so don't read. Just don't be one of those people who go around complaining about how other fans are reading and writing too much slash. It's their choice, not yours, and they're allowed to like something you don't

Even in FF7 fandom alone -- Cloud/Sephiroth might be a large part of it, but it sure isn't enough to drown out the debate over Cloud/Aerith and Cloud/Tifa. I prefer the latter, and I've read my share of that ship. Het shippers might not write as many fanfics, but a) they exist so it's not like there's nothing to read and b) where did the two percent number come from anyway.

Actually I kind of ship Tifa/everyone. Tifa/Aerith is awesome and should be written more.

lol, 98%? I think that depends on the fandom you're in, so it's unfair to say that 98% of all fanfic is slash. Some fandoms are overwhelmingly slash, some are mostly het, and some are a little more evenly split.

And where are the piles of femslash you speak of? because from what I can tell, there's generally less f/f in most fandoms than m/m and m/f (there are some exceptions. the Rizzoli and Isles fandom seemed to be rife with femslash the last time I checked, for instance. but that's one of the few examples I can think of)

maybe if het fans stopped wasting time bitching so much about the prevalence of slash, they could write more het fics to balance things out. I guess that would just be too productive though.

I feel the same way. I like reading action fic, or conspiracy fic.

99% of the time, the forcible insertion of slash into these kinds of fics, feels artificial, out of place and flat out nonsensical.

I actually pointed this out to an author of a an otherwise very well crafted story that her randomly inserted kissing in the middle of a tense hostage situation was totally inappropriate.

Her response: "We'll Im a Yaoi fan."

Well okay, more power to ya.

98%? No. I'll give you that it's more prevalent than het fic but come on... you must not be looking very hard for fic if you can't find any good het fic. Give me a fandom and a pairing and I promise you I'll be able to find at least one epically awesome fic (assuming it's not a small fandom from years ago with a really rare crack pairing).

Maybe there's less het fanfic in some fandoms because the pairing is already resolved in canon?
