No kidding! *Every* GI doc should check for that with abdominal pain.

Every doc should check for that with fibro, chronic pain of any kind, mental status changes and especially frequent miscarriages. It can cause them all.

I was in my 40s before I was diagnosed. And only because I insisted they do the test to rule it out. They didn't believe me till the TTG test came back and I was off the freaking charts.

You can test for Fibro? I asked that because I keep getting told I might have that and my doc flat out refused

There is no test for fibro, because they don't know what causes it. However, you should get tested for celiac disease, because the symptoms are pretty much the same in adults, and if you have celiac disease, you can be symptom free within 6 months to a year by eliminating all sources of gluten from your diet.

Also, the magic words in getting your doctor to perform any blood test that actually exists are: "if you're so convinced I don't have (x), let's just do the test and rule it out."

If you get a negative on the gluten antibody test, or you get gluten antibodies but your endoscopy doesn't confirm celiac, try a gluten-free diet anyway. The reason to get the tests FIRST is that celiac disease can only be diagnosed if you're still eating gluten. But non-celiac gluten sensitivity is also a Thing, and there are two ways to test for that--get an expensive genetic test that's really really expensive (and isn't covered by insurance) or just stop eating gluten and see if you feel better, and if you do, don't start eating it again.
