I only disliked it because it was cheap. They used magical plot devices to keep Gwen and Lancelot as pure and perfect as always. I don't really care who ends up with who afterwards - I just want some good character development. And that opportunity was wasted.

This above all. Because loving two people but choosing one makes you such a bad person. Loving two people wouldn't have made Gwen awful. In fact, loving two men but standing by her convictions and choosing the one who was there for her would make her a strong and noble person, developed in many ways and worthy of attention by an audience.

But NOPE. Chuck Testa. Gwen MUST be distilled perfection. She's a stock character. Even Princess Mithian is more interesting than she is. I was more invested in Mithian and Arthur's relationship after ONE episode and Gwen and Arthur have been 'together' for 3 seasons. WTF is that?

For real. The pureness of her perfection is such that all of her romantic scenes with Arthur must have special lighting and violin music.

There's nothing organic about them. They are a construction, really.

It's a shame, because Gwen's character has so much potential, but they're determined to make her spend all her time on these romance scenes with her "true love." Mithian's scenes with Arthur were a lot more enjoyable because they felt natural. There was no dramatic music or rushed declaration of love. The writers know how to write crushes and friendship, but their idea of true love only brings the story down.

I've been saying exactly this since the very beginning of Arthur/Gwen. The moments when they write Arthur and Gwen as awkward and friendly are the scenes when I ship it. When they try to make it Epic, I wanna shoot puppies. And I love puppies.

Friendships that are more romantic than Arthur/Gwen:

It really is. I hoped that the writers would keep the fan criticism in mind as they wrote S4—they seem to have, for the most part, heard people's complaints about the Monster of the Week fillers—but they insist on making Arwen as forced and mind-grating as ever.

OMG this!! When they are being goofy I'm like "aaaw they are so cute" (and this is coming from a Merlin/Arthur shipper)...as soon as the violins come out though I'm all *snore*.
