Me too OP. You are definitely not alone. My mouth waters just reading about that food.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/kasumi_/ 2011-12-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
omg, same. There was this one drink that sounded really interesting... some kind of cordial, I think? I remember wanting to try it so badly.

[identity profile] greenhoodloxley.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
YES. Always wanted to try.

[identity profile] typhlogirl.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I cannot read those books on an empty stomach, it is torture

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, OP! I was actually in a confectioner's in Paris the other day, amongst all these cakes and macarons, but I was wondering why they couldn't do something as awesome as candied chestnuts. The whole Chibb section of Mossflower makes me so hungry. XD

Candied chestnuts in Paris? Try asking for marrons glacés.

heh, my best friend says the same thing about these books. He always has to have food around when he's reading them or he gets super hungry. XD

[identity profile] stuffy34.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
A Redwall secret!! *squee* And I totally agree with you, OP. Brian Jacques was (still hurts to type that word instead of "is") always incredibly descriptive with his feasts. I've always wanted to make something from the Cookbook.

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Part of the reason for all that sensational food detail was because they were written for blind children.

Also, totally get that cookbook if you don't get it gifted, if only for the novelty and having an extra cookbook. I haven't repeated my childhood habit of trying to make "honeyed" anything since :)

[identity profile] the-kumquat.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, wow, really? I had no idea they were written for blind children. That's so cool! And it makes a ton of sense, thinking back.

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Also, I blame these books for making me pick, wash, and eat dandelions as a kid. they were tasty tbh

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
People make wine and salad out of Dandelions so why is this weird?

I haven't read the series but I've had people explain exactly the same thing to me, so you are most certainly not alone. :)

[identity profile] lobaeclipse.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Have you read A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin? That man seriously loves him some food.

This. Actually, there are two women making a cookbook of all the food he's described. It's said to be the only fanwork he approves of.

[identity profile] tonko-ni.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
For me it was the meadowcream. I always envisioned it as whipped cream with the thickness (but not consistency) of pudding and juuuuuust the right amount of sweetness.

GOD I AM SO HUNGRY.

[identity profile] crownedapple.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeeeesssss! The descriptions of tarts and dumplings and meadowcream - unf.

[identity profile] angary.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
LOL same here! I'm not a fan of veggies at all, but the books always made them sound delicious. I would probably be really healthy if I had to live there

[identity profile] twilightedge.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Before the cookbook came out, I made a few of the recipes when I was really young (like 12/13) from fan recipes I found online and it was rather fun. =) I'd like to try it again hehe.

But yeah, everything he wrote about feasts sounded good. Even dandelion salad. What? haha

[identity profile] liliummuse.livejournal.com 2011-12-20 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
I was so happy when I saw this secret, OP. I was crazy for the Redwall series back in the day (in fact, I still have a whole stash of Brian Jacques' books). My mouth always watered when he described his candied chestnuts, hotroot soup and honey-drenched delectables.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-20 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
I just got that book! Eeeee I love it!
