I felt bad for Michael Jackson's kids but that was most of my MJ emotion. Harry Morgan, though, I did almost cry.

Oh good, a M*A*S*H secret. R.I.P. Harry Morgan. You lived a long, peaceful life and gave me alot of great memories watching this show as a kid with my parents. M*A*S*H was my first ever fandom (weird as that sounds) and a great show. At ease, soldier.

I never think of celebrities as anything other than random people outside of their acting roles, so I'm sorry that I can only talk about how he impacted me through that:

M*A*S*H is still one of my favorite shows, and Potter was my favorite character in it, and I don't think *anyone* could have played that great character with such amazing authority and charm and charisma and perfect mixture of sternness and tartness and sweetness. He was like a real, living person who I never had the pleasure of knowing in real life, but still had a great effect on me all the same. And I did so much vicarious living through his subtle father-daughter-ish relationship with Margaret. He was simply magical.

I didn't give two shits when MJ died. Never liked him or his music so *shrug* I was sad about Mr. Morgan. :(

OMG. OP you just made me cry. I have been so out of touch with everything, with being in my final year of uni. I didn't even know he had died. I love MASH, was too young to watch it when it originally aired, but watched the entire series through reruns a couple of years ago. That is so sad, and I am in the same boat, didn't feel anything when MJ died.

Yes, well. So what? One was a beloved character actor who brought fond emotions and meaningful experiences to multiple generations of fans. The other was a washed-up, mentally unstable pop celebrity. All deaths are sad to the people actually affected by them, but I think you may just have it right in which of these human beings should be mourned more by a fan, AKA a complete stranger who only knows them through media.
