Things don't have to be big or actually "real" to change someone's life. I credit The Little Prince for A LOT in changing my life, and I'm eternally grateful for JPop idols in helping me get through my first semester of college two years ago (I had a really rough time and they did a lot in making me happy).

I mean, I agree that interests changing shouldn't be a big thing, because it does happen. But anything can change a life. Also, films/TV/most media try REALLY hard to get you to identify with characters; it's a concept often called 'suture,' and it's something that most film/tv tries to do.
