I think it's freaking hilarious that people are defending the integrity of the characters as if Alan Moore created them out of whole cloth, instead of filing the serial numbers off of previously existing ones.

Unofficial rumor unverified as of yet.
But it's irrelevant. This story is actually, legally supposed to be Alan Moore's. The reason it's not is because DC never stops doing something with it. So yes, I don't consider anything not Alan approved to not actually be watchmen, which means what they come up with won't be watchmen. Say what you want about integrity.
