I don't know about the first part. I've never had a character change my life, but I guess some works of fiction have influenced me enough to change something about my life. So, indirectly a character changed my life. I don't know and I don't care all that much. Nothing huge, maybe I decided to try a certain food or something. Something that a friend could've easily influenced.

I agree about fandom loyalty though. Some people are so fiercely loyal and act like anyone who changes interests from the fandom is some sort of traitor. I honestly cringe whenever I hear or see someone with a fandom related tattoo. Maybe it's got deeper meaning for some, but I'd say the majority get them because at the time they were really into the fandom.
