my first thought. That looks painful. >

1) I think Kaine herself would be kind of annoyed with her fans.

2) I personally like her, mostly because she's the best portrayal of a trans/intersexed person I've ever seen in a video game. I even like her unapologetically rude as fuck dialogue because it makes it so that she's not the easiest person to empathize with, but she grew on me anyway.

Hell, I only like the Gestalt canon. NiER's a tricky game to break down into component pieces.

I always got the impression that she's a "horrible representation of women" (I'm assuming you mean the lingerie and flaunting of her assets as opposed to her personality) is due to the whole being a female-oriented hermaphrodite and way the hell overcompensating with the "I want to look female and for people to see me as female" thing.

That's how it's explained in canon, yup.

Meh, I'm surprised largely because I get the impression that the game was both forgettable and basically forgotten, 'specially considering how the gameplay was pretty mediocre. I only remember it for the (admittedly excellent) soundtrack.

Why not? It's pretty fun. And has that special "I hate children" Cavia smell that I love so much.

Judging from the fact that it's on the cover of Grimoire Nier, I'm going to assume it's official art.

Looks like somebody hasn't played new game+

This picture reminds me of this horse I saw on animal cops that got a huge curve it's spine (I think it's called swing back? I don't know anything about horses and was only half paying attention to the show.)and it really creeped me out.

Swayback. (And that was not a happy GIS. I agree anon, creepy. Poor horses.)

If there are people who think Kaine's design isn't supposed to be pure fanservice, they need to be slapped in the face, hard, and then forced to watch all the cutscenes where the camera deliberately pans over to her rack/ass in close-up (and the one where Nier goes "what the hell is that girl wearing?!").

That said, if you think she's supposed to be representative of women, you're also really mistaken, because her backstory makes it clear that she dresses and acts the way she does because she's got a mountain of issues and no good way of handling them. She's seriously, seriously messed up, and there's as much emphasis on that in the game's storyline as there is on her booty.

(I don't have any icons serious enough for a NieR discussion. I really don't.)

I've been looking into buying this game, but... Uhm. Her character design. (Her clothes more specifically...) I really don't know.

hnnng--Nier secret. You're certainly welcome to dislike her for her appearance, but, in my opinion, she's a fantastically written and voiced character with depth that goes far beyond her fanservice-y design.
