When I first got into fandom I was religious and thought homosexuality was wrong. I didn't talk about it except to very close friends, and then only to tell them how conflicted I was over it.

Eventually I got over the whole thing, but I still worry people will find out and dislike me for it even though I'm so much the opposite now.

Sort of similar: I was raised with some strong slut-shaming and misogynistic perspectives going around. One day it clicked for me that sex isn't wrong and people freely having it are not bad people, and I hope I never fall into thinking any other way.

Personally it wouldn't bug me what you used to think. What bugs me is when people read my stories, love them, tell me "I don't read the slash," and then when I ask them why, the answer is Jesus, and when I tell them I'm gay, well, I'm sure you can guess how that goes over.

(And people wonder why some slash fans tend to suspect homophobia when we hear "I don't like slash.")

(To make it clear, in case it isn't: I have no problem with people preferring my genfic to other stuff. I just don't like hearing "This particular subset is not okay with me because it's wrong to be who you are" when I'm hoping to hear "I'm not into smut for this series.")
