Since people pointed out Saturday isn't enough time to see what LJ is doing with this or about this, moved the potential moving date to New Years' - 1/1/2012.

[Poll #1805208]

The other poll is closed and this one will be open until Dec 31st! You can edit your vote by going here.

As a note, I'm completely willing to either stay or move. Updating the comm is easy enough for me either way.

1 - It's not only about subject lines. Others have written up potential problems better than I could:

2 - For those worried about possibly needing to make DW accounts to comment, if a move happens: you don't need one! OpenID will let you comment as an LJ user (in the same way Facebook users can comment on LJ).

3 - For those worried about missing updates: I can crosspost to LJ to let you know a post is up (with a handy link over to it), I don't mind that (it's like a minute of extra work, no problem) - if the DW move happens though, the comments would be over there.

4 - Apparently, this is what we're getting next year.

5 - I'm aware workarounds are available - but those (or so I hear?) won't stay available for long. Also, those layouts have their own bugs. If someone can actually supply me with workable code that doesn't make long threads unreadable to change the layout, I'll give it a try.

6 - [livejournal.com profile] raemia has an FAQ up here: http://raemia.livejournal.com/18347.html

7 - Tried the LJ workaround, give me your thoughts? Also contains links to what FS would look like on DW. Feedback on either/both?

LOL THE POLL HAS BEEN OPEN FOR AN HOUR, AND WILL BE UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR.

Goes to show you WHY people are voting not to move. They fail to read anything in the post other than the poll as well.

Wow, why are all the people who voted "move" so incredibly snarky? /=

(Anonymous) 2011-12-23 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
This. How about you guys go to Dreamwidth and we'll stay here.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-23 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Seconded. Chill the fuck out already, people. If it moves, I may actually get some fanfic done because I hate Dreamwidth and refuse to go anywhere near it.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-23 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I don't like Dreamwidth. Things would change because IT WOULD BE ON DREAMWIDTH.

We're pissed because some of us would like to read the goddamn entries and we can't because the new format GIVES US MIGRANES.

That would be annoying, but manageable if the people voting to stay went "we like the changes because of X, but it sucks that people get something triggered by this and have to go to the ER. So let's try these workarounds." But nope! Most of the people who want to stay are pulling a mini-Igrick and going "Well I think it's pretty so fuck your trigger warnings and migraines! Your pain doesn't matter nearly as much as my love of blue vs red and my disgust that I'll find social justice trolls in slightly higher amounts than here."

And if the workarounds WORKED than we'd just deal with it like we deal with how people tend to dismiss that sort of thing, roll our eyes, mentally call them a douche, and use the workarounds. But the workarounds have these problems:

1) people have been reporting that Stylish lags lj like a bitch even more now, which I can confirm, and I have a new computer.

2)using the modified s2 theme cuts off comments past a point, and may not even load the entire page.

3) "just change your display settings" for the entire internet because of one website is a dick thing to say. I should be able to view the vast majority of the internet that doesn't send me under a blanket (in a dark room until whenever the fuck the pain goes away) in it's natural format. Also part of what I do involves website design, so I can't. yanno. just not do my job.

So yeah. We get to be pissed, we don't have to chill the fuck out, we get to demand more substantial reasons for keeping fandom secrets here than "Dw's not as pretty", and we get to call out assholes who dismiss a 12 hour marathon of "holy fucking shit my godamn BRAIN is trying to kill me" as a minor problem.

Thank you, fuck you, and goodnight.

+1

I voted to move and the douchebaggery I'm seeing in the people who voted with me is actually making me want to change my vote.

It probably has something to do with the frustration of people not reading or reading comprehension fail and say they don't want to move because they don't want a DW account. I've seen it repeated countless times that you don't need a DW account and can log on with your LJ account through OpenID. Also, Technophile has offered a solution to continue posting updates on LJ and have fake-cut to DW for those who want to be informed on their LJ friend's list. But it's like some people just aren't getting it and continue to lament that these are the reasons they want to stay. Nothing worse than trying to compromise with stubborn people.

I'll admit the constant repetition of people saying that they don't want to create a DW account when it has been stated a hundred times already that it isn't necessary is bugging me as well, but that is still no reason to lash out at everyone who wants to stay /=

Plus, I get the impression at least half of those people actually mean that in order to receive comment notifications, follow new posts etc. they'd need to sign up to DW. I can't imagine you'd receive an email when someone replies to your comment when you don't even have a DW account.

The fake-cut solution would be fine if and when the majority votes "move to DW". If it's done in spite of the people who want to stay being in the majority, that'd be pretty unfair.

... and don't you realize that you're also one of those stubborn people you're talking about in your last sentence?

I wonder how you'd feel if every comment from a "pro DW" person would be bombarded with things like: "OH NOES BUT DW IS EVIL AND IT'S AN EVEN GREATER CHANGE THAN THE ONE LJ JUST WENT THROUGH! YOU'RE A BAD, STUBBORN PERSON FOR WANTING TO LEAVE LJ, AND UNEDUCATED ON TOP OF THAT! I'M NOT GONNA ACCEPT YOUR OPINION FOR IT IS NOT MINE AND THEREFORE NOT VALID!!!!!"

Sorry, not trying to start wank, just pointing out that this is exactly how the "stay on LJ" people are treated :)

If you're using OpenID on DW (using your LJ account to follow/comment), you DO receive notification of people replying to your comments.
