Since people pointed out Saturday isn't enough time to see what LJ is doing with this or about this, moved the potential moving date to New Years' - 1/1/2012.

[Poll #1805208]

The other poll is closed and this one will be open until Dec 31st! You can edit your vote by going here.

As a note, I'm completely willing to either stay or move. Updating the comm is easy enough for me either way.

1 - It's not only about subject lines. Others have written up potential problems better than I could:

2 - For those worried about possibly needing to make DW accounts to comment, if a move happens: you don't need one! OpenID will let you comment as an LJ user (in the same way Facebook users can comment on LJ).

3 - For those worried about missing updates: I can crosspost to LJ to let you know a post is up (with a handy link over to it), I don't mind that (it's like a minute of extra work, no problem) - if the DW move happens though, the comments would be over there.

4 - Apparently, this is what we're getting next year.

5 - I'm aware workarounds are available - but those (or so I hear?) won't stay available for long. Also, those layouts have their own bugs. If someone can actually supply me with workable code that doesn't make long threads unreadable to change the layout, I'll give it a try.

6 - [livejournal.com profile] raemia has an FAQ up here: http://raemia.livejournal.com/18347.html

7 - Tried the LJ workaround, give me your thoughts? Also contains links to what FS would look like on DW. Feedback on either/both?

8 - http://fandomsecrets.livejournal.com/811020.html?thread=511056908#t511056908 A good summary of the whole thing here by [livejournal.com profile] demarafis.

I'm someone who's stuck with LJ since 2001, but these new changes might just about do me in, if for no other reason than the site literally appears to be giving me headaches now. There's something about these comment pages that just starts hurting my eyes when I look at them for more than a minute or two. I'm not saying this should be anyone else's reason, but it may well end up being mine. I haven't decided for sure yet, but... This layout reduces the functionality of the site, for me, past what I consider worth enduring. It isn't a matter of "getting used to it". I'm not going to get used to getting headaches from the site. And that's a shame, and it will make me sad, since LJ's been my blogging home for so very long. But this is one bump I'm not sure I can see through.

So, I'll be happy if F!S moves. If it doesn't, I'll probably still return here to visit it -- but I'll spend a lot less time in the comment threads.

Daaang, LJ was around in 2001? ...Oh my god, I just realized that was a literal decade ago. Whoa.

Also, my condolences for you on this issue. Here's to hoping the headaches aren't TOO bad and they go away swiftly after you've gotten them?

Didn't LJ start in 1999?

I believe so. I started using not long after the Early Adopters ended -- always used to be annoyed that I missed out on free permanent account by such a short time, ha.

Yeah, that's the problem I'm having. I spend a significant amount of time on LJ, but the new comments page have given me full-blown migraines the past couple nights. (Why I am still reading here, I am not sure, I am apparently a fucking addict. >_<)

lol, I know how you feel, you'd think I'd quite torturing myself. I couldn't even figure out what was triggering it at first, and I'm still not sure why -- my vision is poor in that I'm tremendously near-sighted without my contacts, but it's not usually so sensitive to colours. There's just something about this that's definitely setting it off, though. :(

OK so I have a work around for you that someone just told me about and which means I can now read the comments without being ill!

If you use either firefox or chrome you can install the LiveJournal extension/add on and one of the options lets you set it so that (whatever account level you have) you can view the comments in the style of your own journal.

Obviously if/when they change it so the new design affects all styles as I've heard they might this won't help, but for now you can do it and it works. Not that you should have to install anything extra just to read the darn site.
